Once in Florence we walked to our hotel (Hotel Fedora) to check-in and regroup. The hotel room was a very decent size with a dining area/living room and bed downstairs and a loft bedroom upstairs. The staff was excellent and put out a nice little breakfast of bread and jams but it was definitely only a 2-star hotel. The bathroom was super-tiny, it was dimly lit, the wi-fi only worked in the lobby and there was no air conditioning...but for the cost (180 EUR for two nights) and location we didn't complain (until after we had walked around all day and came back to a room hotter than a sauna).
After dropping our bags off we went to a nearby restaurant for lunch and then to the historical centre to check out the Galileo Science Museum. The museum was really interesting! The kids weren't that interested in the main area but had a blast in the downstairs interactive part!

Galileo's middle finger |
They also had fun searching for Galileo's middle finger. "It is hard to know how Galileo would have felt about the final resting place of his finger. Whether the finger points upwards to the sky, where Galileo glimpsed the glory of the universe and saw God in mathematics, or if it sits eternally defiant to the church that condemned him, is for the viewer to decide."
This was our daughter's favorite part of the day! |
After the museum we stopped for some Gelato (don't judge) and then walked around downtown before finding a spot for dinner and calling it a night!
