Florence, Italy (Accademia)

This morning we woke up early to try and get in line to climb up Brunelleschi's Dome; however, we were disappointed when we got there to see that it was undergoing an unexpected closure and wouldn't open until after lunch.

It didn't stop us from having a pleasant morning though!  We found a nearby park and let the kiddos play for awhile.

Then, we had lunch and meandered through the San Lorenzo Market until our reservation at the Accademia at 2:45 p.m.  The only thing our daughter wanted to see the whole time we were in Italy was Michelangelo's Statue of David!  (The lines were ridiculous but we were able to bypass them by purchasing tickets online). Unfortunately, photos aren't allowed inside the museum so we didn't get any pictures of the statue, but I don't think a picture would have done it justice anyway!  Simply amazing.

We ended our night with a lovely meal overlooking the river followed by a walk through the Piazza della Republicca (the kid's loved the street musicians and carousel ride, I wish we had pictures but our camera died at this point).  It was an amazing day and a perfect last night in Florence!
