Brugge, Belgium

After a wonderful evening in Oostend, we got up early and took a quick 15 minute train ride into medieval city of Brugge. We were really excited to go exploring in it's city centre...the whole thing is named a UNESCO World Heritage site!

Once there we walked the downtown area for a little bit, checked out the Church of Our Lady (with the second tallest brickwork tower in the world), then took a canal tour of the city.  It was beautiful!

After our tour through the Dijver Canal, we walked around a bit more and found a quick place to grab a bite to eat.

There was a ridiculous amount of chocolate shops in Brugge!

After an er, yummy edible lunch, we decided to rent bicycles to go back to some of the fun places we saw while on the canal tour...especially the 13th-century belfry!

Belfort in the historic city centre.
Bruges Markt
(the covered market dates back to the Middle ages!)
Town Hall
We peeped our heads in some of the tourist shops (especially the beer shop we found)  then stopped at a nice little spot for one of the best cups of hot chocolate I've ever tasted!  Before we knew it, it was time to return our bikes and head back to the train station...

Once back in Oostend, we decided to head downtown to try out a recommended Mexican place (yes, we went for Mexican food in Belgium!).  Although, it was definitely NOT the "Mexican" food we were going for it was delicious nonetheless!

After dinner we went to a movie at a nearby theater.  It was the first theater with a concession stand that looked like the inside of a gas station...you just helped yourself! They even had heated compartments for pre-bagged, fresh popcorn...just none with butter  (thankfully we realized the popcorn was coated in SUGAR before we purchased it...although on second thought, I would have loved to see my husband's face when he bit into one thinking it was regular popcorn)!

All-in-all, it was a great, relaxing getaway!  We saw some amazing places, drank some amazing beer, and had an amazing time...we would definitely come back here again...in fact, we WILL come back here again!
