The train ride from Florence was easy minus the whole someone-tried-to-steal-our-tickets-incident. [A younger woman walked up to me and my mother and asked us if we had tickets (we were holding them trying to find where to go). We told her yes and she asked if she could see them and tried to take them out of our hands. My husband, who realized what was happening, told her "no, why do you need to see our tickets?" and she took off.]
Once in Pisa we hopped on the bus (they were lined up waiting outside) to the Piazza dei Miracoli to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa before our flight. The piazza was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
The Piazza dei Miracoli, formally known as Piazza del Duomo, is a wide walled area located in Pisa, Tuscany, Italy, recognized as an important center of European medieval art and one of the finest architectural complexes in the world. Considered a sacred area by its owner, the Catholic Church, the square is dominated by four great religious edifices: the Pisa Cathedral, the Pisa Baptistry, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and the Camposanto Monumentale (Monumental Cemetery). Partly paved and partly grassed, the Piazza dei Miracoli is also the site of the Ospedale Nuovo di Santo Spirito (New Hospital of the Holy Spirit), which houses the Sinopias Museum, and the Cathedral Museum.
We didn't go up the Tower (you had to be 8 yrs. old or up) but we did spend the afternoon playing and lazing in the grass along the Battistero and Cathedral of St. Ranieri! It was a relaxing end to a wonderful trip!
