Medulin, Croatia (Departure)

After checking out of our resort (and maybe some kicking and screaming to get us me in the car) it was time to enjoy our last day in Croatia.  Since we didn't fly out until 6:50 p.m. we had plenty of time to check out Medulin, another nearby village.

Well, we thought we had plenty of time...

The week had gone so well, so it was no surprise that the shoe would eventually drop...and drop it did.  First, our Garmin tried to take us some crazy back-woods way (literally) into Medulin.  We ended up dead-ending into a fenced construction site in the middle of no-where.  Then, we get to Medulin and find the tourist agency's office (Globus) is closed...as is most of everything else in the village...

We did find a nice restaurant open for lunch though and the food was actually good (despite having a picture menu, which we normally try to avoid).  The service was also excellent and our waiter gave us the low-down on some other cool villages to hit up next time we are here (they were all too far for us to go at that point in the day - e.g. Hum, the world's smallest town).

There was also a quaint little wine and olive oil shop right across the street from the restaurant that was also open.  They were even pruning olive trees while we were there!  They offered free tastings of their wine (FYI, the sweet red is quite yummy and sells for 5 EUR for a liter..just saying) and they had a small gift shop.

It seemed like the area would have been really nice.  There were lots of touristy things to see/do when we checked it out online, but most were not open in the low-season (this was the one place where coming out of season was a problem).  There are boat rentals, excursions to nearby islands, a submarine ride, etc. either open after 3 p.m. or during summer.

Instead, we headed back to the airport to check out a go-kart track (Green Garden Kartodrom Pula) we had seen on the way in.  For 53 EUR we had the run of the track for 20 minutes...the giddiness on my kids (and husband's) face was worth every penny!

Unfortunately, it was then time to leave, get gas, return the rental car, check into the airport and head back to reality...

It was hands down the best trip we've had in Europe and I would come here again...as our kid's would say...it was "EPIC!"
