St. Goar & Assmanshausen, Germany (Rhine River Cruise)

Today was Mother's Day and I was so thankful that I got to spend it with my wonderful mama here in Germany!  We spent a perfect day cruising down the Rhine River, touring a castle, wine tasting, and checking out some quaint, little villages along the way!

The tour was offered through the local USO office.  After an early bus ride we arrived at Burg Rheinstein where we were given a brief introduction of the castle's history by an English-speaking employee.  We were then free to tour the refurbished castle, grounds and gift shop on our own.

Be prepared for the steep walk uphill...it's worth it though!

Enjoying some coffee..on top of a castle!

Soon we hopped back on the bus and drove down to the Rhine River to board our "cruise" ship.  When we realized the cruise was going to be two hours long we were kinda worried; however, the scenery was gorgeous and we had a great time snacking on some goulash and sipping on "Rudesheimer Coffee!"

The addition of a shot of Asbach made it a little...strong!

Once back from the cruise it was off to Assmanshausen for a typical German lunch at Restauant zum Anker (can we say schnitzel and pommes...YUM!).  After lunch we to a short stroll to the wine cellar and had a wonderful tasting inside a gigantic wine barrel!

Not the "tea" we were thinking of..lol!

We may or may not have walked out
of there with three bottles of eiswein!

Our last stop of the day was Rudesheim for some free-time to walk the famous Drosselgasse, shop and sight-see.

We got back home happy and tired...with some awesome memories of a great Mother's Day!
