Landstuhl, Germany (Burg Nanstein)

Grandma is in town!  A trip to Germany would not be complete without touring at least one castle, so we took her to see the nearby ruins of Burg Nanstein.

The castle is nestled on a wooded hill above the village of Landstuhl.  You can see the castle from the village below (it is especially pretty at night) but the best view of the castle is up close and personal.

We drove up from Landstuhl, although there are some hiking and running trails that lead up to the area (I'd really like to try them out one day!).   There is also a small restaurant at the base of the castle with a fantastic view of Landstuhl and some pretty good coffee and desserts...

The castle itself is open Tues.- Sun. and cost 3 EUR (per adult) to enter.  I'd say that is a fair price for some self-exploration of an unique piece of history!  (You can read more about the history of the castle HERE).

(P.S. my son dressed himself today, just thought I would add that)
There is also an underground area of the castle you can explore.  Little man loved this part!

We love these kinds of places, where we can just let the kids run and explore...how cool is it that our kids can say they used castles as their playgrounds?!

I love you, Germany.  I love you.
