Bad Sobernheim, Germany (Barefoot Path)

After a fun morning in Idar-Oberstein, we headed to Bad Sobernheim to check out the Barefoot Path!

We thought the kids would really enjoy all the different textured pathways...however, they were not impressed with walking in "poop water."

Our first priority when getting to Bad Sobernheim though was food! We easily found parking in the downtown area and ate at Hotel Ratshof.  We were having a little trouble translating the menu (the waitress did not speak English and our German is not spectacular).  The chef spoke a little English though and he came out and took our order...the kids thought this was the coolest thing in the world!

After a yummy lunch we were off to the Barefoot Path!  We thought the set up was really nice.  There is a snack bar and playground when you walk in, as well as a picnic area, bathroom and feet washing area (you'll need this, trust me).  You can also rent a locker to store your shoes and keys for 1 EUR, which we did and recommend.  If not, you are stuck holding everything or have to pile your stuff up in a massive heap of someone else's smelly shoes.

Little mama did NOT like getting dirty!

The trail itself (3.5 km) took about 2 hrs. It was really crowded on the day we went (at some points we were waiting in line to walk over things) but the weather was gorgeous so we didn't mind.  There is a river you have to wade across and at one section you can walk down to the bank and get in the water.  A lot of families had laid towels out on the rocks and were letting their kids play in the water (for some reason I don't have a photo of that, sorry).

There is also a suspension bridge you have to cross to get back over the river.  The kids really liked this part!

After we washed up we were definitely ready to head home and get some recliner time in....another successful "Family Fun Day" for the memory book!
