Prague, Czech Republic (John Lennon Peace Wall & Petrin Hill)

On the agenda this morning...the John Lennon Peace Wall and Petrin Hill!

After an early breakfast in our apartment we headed to the Charles Bridge (the main pedestrian route connecting Old Town with Mala Strana).  The bridge is beautiful and full of street artists, musicians, lovebirds, tourists, and locals!

Once across the bridge and into Lesser Town we took a detour to see the John Lennon Peace Wall on the way to Petrin Hill.  The wall is supposed to be a "symbol of freedom and rebellion against the communist regime in the 1980's" created by the youths of Prague on the death of John Lennon.

The walk to Petrin Hill (which is almost entirely covered by parks and playgrounds) took longer than we expected but the kids had soooo much fun "hiking" and "exploring" on the way there.  Not only were the views AMAZING from the hilltop but there are lots of other sights to see once you get there (Hunger Wall, Strahov Monastery, Petrin funicular, the lookout tower, observatory, mirror maze, as well as several churches and memorials).

Cathedral of Saint Lawrence

The only thing the kids cared about was the "EIFFEL TOWER!"  Although we were all exhausted from the hike up, we couldn't not go up the lookout tower (especially since it looks like the Eiffel Tower in Paris and we couldn't go up it while we were there due to bad weather).  And, at a cost of less than 10 EUR for the four of us to go up..quite cheaper than a return trip back to France!

We had such a great time (despite all the walking...something our daughter is not a fan of)!  Had we planned our route better (or just bypassed the Lennon Wall) we could have taken the funicular up to the top of the hill and walked down but trying to figure out how to get anywhere here proved rather difficult for us!  Oh well, our next stop...Hradcany to see the Prague Castle!
